Description
Cabo da Roca Guardião dos Oceanos Red 2024 — a Lisboa blend made 20 km from the Atlantic
Aragonez, Castelão and Syrah, briefly barrel-aged. Balanced, spiced and ready to drink.
The vineyard lies 20 kilometres from the coast at 96 metres, sixteen years old, planted north-west to south-east at 3,500 vines per hectare. Atlantic influence is strong; the soils run from alluvial flats to limestone slopes.
The blend is 40% Aragonez, 40% Castelão and 20% Syrah, machine-harvested in the third week of September. Destemmed and crushed, two days of cold maceration, fermentation rising from 16 ºC to 24 ºC, then malolactic. Three months in barrel. 14% alcohol.
Spice and red fruit on the nose with black pepper. The palate is balanced and medium-bodied, finishing with persistence.
Serve at 18 ºC. Drink through 2029. Pairs with tapas, mild cheese and grilled pork, chicken or beef. First vintage produced: 2016.
