Description
Monte Cascas Colheita Red Douro 2023 — Touriga Nacional from four schist vineyards
A Douro red built for the table: black fruit, coffee and chocolate, with 40% of the blend given six months in used oak.
Four vineyards feed this wine, between 180 and 460 metres, aged 27, 43, 6 and 7 years. Most are trained on unilateral cordon, one keeps the traditional bush form. Mountain climate, hot dry summers, schist soil.
The blend is 60% Touriga Nacional, 30% Touriga Franca and 10% Tinta Roriz, machine-harvested in the third and fourth weeks of September. Destemmed and crushed, three days of cold maceration, fermentation from 12 ºC to 32 ºC, malolactic in used oak for 40% of the lot, which then spends six months in barrel. 13.7% alcohol.
Orange blossom, rockrose, black fruit, coffee and chocolate on the nose. The palate brings ripe plum and cherry on a balanced frame, finishing with persistence.
Serve at 18 ºC. Drink through 2027. Pairs with tapas, cured ham, grilled pork and veal. First vintage produced: 2007.
