Description
Portie Vintage Port 2010 — a single-harvest Vintage from the schist terraces of the Douro
Declared from the finest fruit of the 2010 harvest, foot-trodden in stone lagares and fortified mid-fermentation. Deep, black-fruited and built to age for decades.
The Douro is mountain country: continental, with hot dry summers and soils of pure schist that force the vine to root deep and ripen slowly. The grapes are the traditional red varieties of the region, picked entirely by hand in early September.
In the winery, the fruit is crushed in stone lagares and trodden by foot — the old method, still the gentlest way to extract colour and tannin from Douro grapes. Fermentation is arrested by the addition of grape spirit, locking in natural sweetness and structure. The wine rests in stainless steel and completes its ageing in bottle. 20% alcohol.
Deep black-purple in the glass. The nose opens on blackcurrant and blueberry with dark chocolate; the palate is full and weighty, layered with wild blackberry and black cherry, closing long and alive.
Serve at 16–18 ºC. Exceptional ageing potential. Drink with cheese, or after dinner with desserts, chocolate and a cigar. First vintage produced: 2010.
